Cats that have a food sensitive or intolerance, also called adverse reactions to food, typically experience an abnormal response to the protein in the food. I was thrilled in my search for this cat food to find somewhere I could order by the can instead of a case of 24. It was easy to download the prescription I got from the vet. Shipping was fast and I received it quickly. My cat actually likes it, which is good since there are very few hydrolyzed protein canned foods for cats. It doesn’t have a great texture but when I open a can I mix it with water to thin it down.

I ordered from Southern Agriculture because they sell individual cans of Hill's z/d feline rather than full cases, which is good for trying a new food. My picky eater cat (with IBD) ate some of the serving but not all; she seemed put off by the gelatinous consistency which she had to chase around the plate. I froze a few teaspoonfuls and offered it (thawed) at a later date, and she liked it better, but she preferred Royal Canin Selected Protein wet food.

We are trying to figure out why our cat is loosing fur on her belly and itching. When looking up what food to use for elimination diet (in case she is allergic to current food), this was recommended. In order to know if it is the food causing this reaction, you must do the elimination diet for 8-10 weeks feeding ONLY this diet. I am so glad Hill's Prescription Diet has a wet food option because she has a little every day. She likes it which is fantastic, so we will see if it eliminates the itching and fur licking.
